Notice is hereby given that the Twentieth Annual General Meeting of SeniorNet Wellington Incorporated will be held in the Renouf Foyer, Michael Fowler Centre, 111 Wakefield Street, Wellington on Wednesday, 20 June 2012 commencing at 11 am.

How to avoid computer viruses and other malware, identity theft, and spam workshop - Tuesday 5 June 2012 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.

When:  Tuesday 5 June 2012 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.

Where:  Anvil House, Level 1, Meeting Room 2,  138 - 140 Wakefield Street, Wellington.

What:  Learn how to protect yourself from the “baddies” that seek to invade your computer to steal your information and your money, or con you into giving it and possibly kill your computer or make it useless.

Tony Doogue will explain the various types of baddies of the computer world and show you how to protect yourself from them. There will be simple practical hints as well as links to more detailed information.
If you’ve got something you particularly want to know about or are having difficulties with why not see if he can help you.

What: The purpose of the workshop is to set up:

  • An email account using free webmail 
  • Setting up a  personal homepage using iGoogle
  • The use of the calendar
  • And many other features

Demonstration of the 3 most popular programmes, Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail

  • A basic knowledge of how to use a mouse or touch pad

Digital Camera Group - Digicam SLG - Wednesday 16 May, 10 am - 12 pm

What: Bring your camera and manual. We will have our usual extensive Q & A plus an update on a couple of new cameras.

Bring along a few of your favourite pictures and we can show them on the new large TV screen, much better than through a projector.

Another brief look at Camerasim, the very educational camera simulator.

For the tech-no-crats........what is   Bokeh.  Ah ha ! Another new word to some but it is a photography "buzz" word. We will go to a couple of web sites for explanations.

Staying Safe - Road Users Workshop - Friday 25th May commencing at 9.45 am

What: Staying Safe is a recently released refresher workshop for senior road users prepared by the NZ Transport Agency. Age Concern Wellington previously delivered the NZTA Safe with Age course, and is now presenting the revised course.

The content includes an update on the new give way rules as well as some useful guidelines on driving safely. NZTA also provides a free booklet for course participants which covers much of the course material, plus information on licence renewal. The course takes approximately 2 ½  hours, and includes morning tea. Participants need to be at the venue by 9.45am for a 10am start.  Cost - $10 payable on the day

What: Dean Burt from Westpac Banking will address all aspects of Online Banking. He will discuss the various things we can all do on-line, he will answer all our questions including our security concerns, and will discuss methods and the design approach they follow to make Online Banking safe, simple, and easy to use.
Dean Burt has helped us run several excellent Online Banking Workshops.  He is a very good presenter and while he is from Westpac, his presentation and comments are relevent for customers of all NZ Banking institutions. You will find this a very interesting and extremely helpful Workshop.

Hands-on mini workshop - Introduction to using Wellington City Libraries online, Wednesday 16 May, 10 am – 12 noon

What: This workshop will help you get started with using key services available from the Wellington City Libraries website.  Learn about:

  • using and getting the best out of the catalogues for finding items in the library
  • special features available in the Easyfind Catalogue, including making your own 'wish lists' of items
  • reserving items online
  • checking your library card online
  • how to suggest items for the library to buy

Important: As this is a mini-workshop using classroom computers, numbers are limited to 8 spaces and will only available to those who register.
