What: Clinical psychologist Karen Nimmo had her first book (My Bum Looks Brilliant In This – the one true secret of lasting weight loss), published by Random House in July this year.

Karen's earlier career was in journalism and magazine feature writing in New Zealand, the UK, and Australia.  She’ll talk about the challenges of writing non-fiction, and will share some of the tips and tricks she’s learned along the way. This will be a very interesting session and there'll be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

John Cook will also relate how he solved a technical question this week with the help of Google, plus a demonstration of another way to open those pesky files people send you that your computer can't handle.

Digicam SIG, Wednesday 19 August 10 am - 12 pm

What: The first hour will be a "workshop" on actually accessing some of the useful functions that are on your camera. Bring camera and manual.

Last month we took a very brief look at Windows Live Photo Gallery which involved "tagging" photos. If time is available after morning tea, Bryan will demonstrate enhancing photos using this program; (now that he has found how to do it !!!) and it is easy. Tagging will be left for some other time.

Any particular question you want answered email to bcarver@clear.net.nz then it can be researched before the meeting.

What is eDay?

eDay is a community initiative designed to raise awareness of the benefits of recycling computers and the hazardous nature of electronic waste (e-waste), while offering an easy way for households and schools to dispose of old computers and mobile phones in an environmentally sustainable manner.

What: Learn how you can do your banking on the Internet.  What are the risks, and what are the best ways to use Internet banking facilities?  This Workshop will explore these and other questions about using the Internet for your day to day banking.

Dean Burt of Westpac New Zealand, who has previously run two very interesting workshops for us, will present the essential information in such a way that regardless of which bank you use, your questions will be answered.

Numbers are limited to the first 25 applicants and there are still a few places available.  Please register with John Nimmo at john.nimmo@xtra.co.nz.

Google Maps and Google Earth Workshop,Tuesday 25 August 2009 10.00 am to 12.00 noon

What:  Come along and learn how to take advantage of and enjoy these two free packages, accessible through Google, with Tony Doogue.   As they inter-relate its simplest to look at them together. They can be useful or fun, depending on your interests, for travelling by land, sea or air or simply exploring the world in which we live or the planetary system of which the world forms part. 
If you’ve got something you particularly want to know about these programmes or are having difficulties with them why not come along and see if there is an answer.

All of the content of the Workshop is readily accessible through Google once you know where to look.
